Each is wonderful reading and is published with a distinctive gray cover and a beautiful endpaper. Decidedly non-digital book selections but just what I'm hungering for.

Thomas Friedman's column this week in The New York Times, The Whole World Is Watching (registration required), makes the point that anyone you bump into - anywhere, anytime - might have a blog or a cell phone with a camera and a way to instantly, globally publish the details of your encounter.

As always, he's got an elegant turn of phrase. He writes:

Persephone Books, from a marvelous publisher in London, are rediscovered 20th century novels written by neglected women authors. Not only are they wonderful reading, each one is published with a distinctive dove-gray cover and a beautiful "fabric" endpaper (see above). You also get a matching bookmark.
